Evolution is happening right now. We could even argue that it’s happening at a larger magnitude than ever before. Check this pic:

It shows how evolutionary steps seem to occur at exponentially shorter intervals until us humans arrive at the last split second of relative Earth time. And it don’t stop there.

Nor does the trend discontinue. Faster and faster do major human developments occur. So fast that what is seen is an “exponential growth in the rate of exponential growth,” as outlined here by famous futurist Ray Kurzweil through the observation of our technological footprint.

I guess we now see where this is going, huh? Er, actually we have little idea where this is going except that at some point it is plausibly hypothesized that there will be a crescendo of all these advancements. This apex event is often dubbed The Singularity–But wait! This development is not expected to happen only in the technology sphere but perhaps even within consciousness itself! Phatty quote from Ken Wilber:

“around 30 years from now, there will occur a tetra-Singularity of staggering proportions. Think of it like the Singularity described by Ray Kurzweil-except that his Singularity only refers to the Right-Hand quadrants, not the interior or Left-Hand quadrants, where, the AQAL Code predicts, we will finally have over 10% of the population reaching truly Integral (or ‘second-tier’) levels-hence, a Singularity-like occurrence in all four quadrants.”

Wanna get even further out? This event is predicted (or even prophesied) to occur within most of our lifetimes. For fun, lets check out the 2012 subculture (proceed with caution; here be “Pre/Post Fallacy” dragons–nevertheless, I love the spirit of all this cosmic momentum!) .One branch of the 2012 phenomenon revolves around

The second surge of 2012 buffs come from the school of controversial psychedelic guru Terence McKenna and his Time Wave Zero theory which was mathematically derived from the ancient I-Ching divination technique. McKenna asserts that history is an exponentially increasing unfoldment of Novelty over time, and that sometime in the year 2012 this Novelty “goes off the charts.” It’s interesting to note that McKenna arrived at his theory independent from the Mayan calendar research.
